Kapiti expressway creating jobs in Otaki
The Kapiti expressway construction is already having major economic benefits for the Otaki township and wider economy, says local MP Nathan Guy after two site visits today.
“So far nearly 400 people are working on building the Kapiti expressway and there will be many more required to work on the biggest Government investment ever seen in Kapiti.
“More local jobs and investment is great news. Up to 40 new jobs will be created at the precast concrete yard in Otaki, which is seeing a $4 million capital investment into ‘tooling up’ the site to build massive bridge beams.
“18 bridges are needed on the Kapiti expressway, and more will be required for Transmission Gully and roading improvements all the way to Foxton. Clearly Otaki is in a strategic location to contribute to all of these projects.
“The Paraparaumu quarry is also ramping up operations. There are five new jobs and they are now extracting 15 times their previous volume.
“Over one million tonnes will be used to build the Kapiti expressway, and it was very impressive to see a massive 50 tonne digger in operation, on what is one of the steepest quarries in New Zealand.
“It’s great to see the real economic impact the expressway construction is already having on our communities."
