Regional Jobs Summit a Success
Otaki MP Nathan Guy says yesterday’s regional jobs summit was a success, with more than 50 employers and stakeholders attending from the Kapiti and Horowhenua Districts.
Held in Palmerston North, Mr Guy was the Government representative and spoke at the opening of the summit that attracted about 250 attendees.
“Prime Minister John Key’s Jobs Summit was deemed so successful it was decided to move the idea down to a more regional level.
“The focus in the regions is to engage with people at the coal face to learn from their first-hand experiences on how they are coping with any potential slow down with the economy,” Mr Guy says.
“The summit provided an opportunity for local businesses to understand how Government agencies can provide advice to help with the current economic slowdown”.
“The Government can focus on making changes to laws and legislations at a high level, but often sharing ideas locally can provide very positive outcomes.”
“Many employers I spoke to at the summit were pleased with the 1 April tax cuts to help their workers and the recent business tax changes that will help our small businesses in Kapiti and Horowhenua,” Mr Guy says.
