Guy wants Western Link Road Started
Otaki MP Nathan Guy is delighted that the Wellington Regional leaders yesterday confirmed Stage One of the Western Link Road, including a new bridge between Waikanae and Paraparaumu as a top priority.
“This is fantastic news for Kapiti because it will connect up our communities. This new road and bridge will significantly ease traffic congestion on the existing State Highway where we have about 24,000 vehicles movements a day.
“I am working hard with the Mayor Jenny Rowan to get this project started this year as the funding has already been allocated.
“We need to reduce the gridlock on the state highway now”
The Transport Minster Mr Steve Joyce will be briefed on this project when he visits the Otaki electorate next month to understand how important it is.
“Proposed changes to the Resource Management Act (RMA) introduced this week by the National-led Government will also help projects like this get the green light much sooner.
Simplifying and Streamlining the consenting process through the RMA is vital to get infrastructure projects like this, up and running sooner.
“I see the Western Link Road, rail electrification to Waikanae and extending the safety barrier from MacKay’s Crossing to Paekakariki as a really important package for our region”.
