News from Nathan Guy
February 2009
Happy 2009 and welcome to my first edition of ‘News from Nathan Guy’. I hope your summer has been an enjoyable one.
Thanks for your support at the election – it was a fantastic result locally and nationally. As well as representing you as your MP in Government I’ve been given the role as Senior Government Whip and Caucus Representative on the National Party Board – so it’s a busy time.
Parliament has resumed with a focus on the economy and law & order initiatives. We are concluding our promised 100 day plan of implementing our election pledges and Prime Minister John Key is providing strong leadership.

Local businesses will get relief
The National Government has unveiled small business tax changes worth $480 million over the next four years, as part of a wider scheme aimed at promoting economic growth and protecting jobs. Almost 20,000 people are employed fulltime in the Kapiti and Horowhenua Districts across 7,700 businesses so our new tax initiatives will help to stimulate the local economy.
Many local businesses are feeling the pinch with the current economic slowdown, so reducing paperwork and helping to boost their cash flow will make a difference. We need our businesses to perform and ultimately grow again to take on more employees.
