Guy Rapt Road Gets Significant Status
Otaki MP Nathan Guy says it is hugely positive news that SH1 from Wellington all the way to Levin is recognised as one of seven Roads of National Significance.
“The Otaki electorate stands to gain considerably from this, with the focus of improvements for safety, congestion and increased productivity right through the Kapiti and Horowhenua districts.”
Yesterday, Transport Minister Steven Joyce announced seven Roads of National Significance and asked the New Zealand Transport Agency to develop plans to substantially advance the seven roads.
Mr Guy says the Minister has demonstrated some positive leadership to get the bulldozers started sooner.
“We all know the road north of Wellington needs priority treatment. As a result of the Minister’s recent visit to the electorate, he also knows the main corridor through our districts is in need of priority treatment and he has delivered on that.
“As our corridor is now identified as a road of ‘National Significance’ - it will go through a faster planning approval process under changes the Government is making to the resource management act (RMA)”
“This is very positive step forward in addressing our urgent transport needs ” Guy says.
