Guy welcomes new Urgent Health Care Initiative
Otaki MP Nathan Guy says the launch of the Urgent Community Care pilot programme in Kapiti could be the start of a new way for ambulance and paramedic teams to treat people in their homes throughout New Zealand.
“This is an exciting development and it’s great that Kapiti is leading the way.”
The Urgent Community Care programme launched by Wellington Free Ambulance will enable paramedics to treat more people in their homes. It is a two-year pilot funded by Government.
“Our district will welcome this service with open arms as the Otaki electorate has the largest percentage of super annuitants and Kapiti has the largest population the longest distance from a hospital.
“The pilot programme will reduce the stress on local doctors and ambulances travelling to Wellington Hospital and that's great news for our region,” Mr Guy says.
The Urgent Community Care pilot will support the highly successful Emergency Medical Service (EMS) operated by Dr Chris Lane - well known for being first on the ground at most motor vehicle accidents on the Kapiti Coast.
Mr Guy hopes to see the service expanded to operate 24 hours in the future.
“This will be the start of a new way for ambulance and paramedic teams to treat people in their homes throughout New Zealand.
”I’m excited that Kapiti will be able to prove how important this service is to our community”.
