Guy Right Behind Levin Performing Schools
Otaki MP Nathan Guy presented awards to triumphant Levin schools at the regional Stage Challenge performing arts event in Palmerston North last night.
Played out in front of a large and vocal audience at the Regent on Broadway, Horowhenua College won the challenge, with Waiopehu College right behind in second place.
“This event is a fantastic showcase for our local youth’s amazing creative talent and it was extremely exciting to witness the performances from these schools and the buzz from their successes,” Mr Guy says.
“These kids have invested a huge amount of time and effort during this year in this work and they have obviously learnt some valuable skills about performance, including team work, direction, choreography, costume, lighting and set design.
“We can be proud of their achievement and the wonderful support they have received from parents and teachers.”
Stage Challenge requires the students to manage the entire process of the production including costume and set design, choreography and theme development.
Mr Guy took great pleasure in awarding prizes to his old college, Waiopehu, and Levin Intermediate, the only school competing in this age group.
Last nights performance included schools from the Wairarapa, Taranaki, Manawatu and Horowhenua.
Stage Challenge has been an annual event for over 15 years.
