Government secures future for Otaki Health Camp
The National Government's decision to invest an extra $1.5 million into Children’s Health Camps each year is great news for the Otaki Health Camp, says Otaki MP Nathan Guy.
The Government announced the funding boost yesterday after considering the findings of an independent financial review into the Children’s Health Camps.
The funding boost means that the country's seven health camps - which include the Otaki camp - will continue to operate.
“As a regular visitor to the health camp, I’m really pleased about this. I was appalled when the previous Labour Government said that the camps would not receive additional funding and told camps to cut their services.
"The kids that are sent to these camps are aged between five and 14 years and are just the sort of youngsters that this Government is committed to supporting.
"This announcement will secure a bright and sustainable future for the Otaki camp which I know is in need of some improvements.
"It also gives job security and certainty to the loyal and committed staff members at the camp," said Mr Guy. There are about 40 staff at the Otaki camp.
The Government's increase in funding to the trust that runs the Children’s Health Camps will roll out over the 2009/10 financial year.
