Local MP Calls Public Meetings Over Kapiti SH1 Plans
Otaki MP Nathan Guy is calling public meetings so that Kapiti residents and businesses can hear firsthand from the New Zealand Transport Agency on the roading strategy for the district.
“I’ve been hearing lots of opinions on the proposals that have been presented to the community. Some people are saying get the bulldozers started now while others have some realistic concerns.
“I recognise that this is a very stressful time for those people whose homes and businesses may be directly affected by the proposed options. It is very important that they hear directly from the Transport Agency on the proposals and have the chance to ask any questions.
Mr Guy said he would also be inviting Transport Minister Steven Joyce to address the meetings. “It is important that he can explain the big picture about the strategic priority the Government is putting on this road of national significance from Wellington Airport to Levin.”
Three public meetings have been arranged for Wednesday 9 September:
- 4pm, Te Horo Hall, School Road, Te Horo
- 5.30pm, El Rancho Hall, Kauri Road, Waikanae
- 7.30pm, Southwards Car Museum, Otaihanga Road, Paraparaumu
Mr Guy said he was attending back-to-back meetings on today (Friday) and Saturday with senior NZTA officials and directly affected individuals, groups and businesses.
“More of these meetings will be held over coming weeks to ensure that our community can get the best possible outcome from this roading upgrade."
NZTA will also be holding several public information days which Mr Guy will attend. These are:
- Paraparaumu Library, Thursday 3 September 3-7pm
- Otaki Memorial Hall supper room, Friday 4 September 3-7pm
- Coastlands Shoppingtown, Saturday 5 September 11am–2pm
- Waikanae Library, Monday 7 September 2-5pm
“I am very keen for the community to engage in the consultation process and come along to the public meetings or the information days. I also encourage people to send in their feedback forms so that NZTA can gauge public opinion.”
