Local MP calls SH1 Public Meeting for Otaki Community
Otaki MP Nathan Guy has called a SH1 public meeting for the Otaki community for this Friday 11 September.
Mr Guy said about 120 people turned up last week for the public information session in the Otaki Supper Room which was a great opportunity for people to understand more about the proposals.
“I’m keen for this meeting to be specifically about the Otaki section of the SH1 upgrade plans as there are a number of local factors that we need to carefully consider.
"Otaki has grown to be a thriving retail destination and on the weekends it is the worst choke point for congestion in the lower North Island," said Mr Guy.
Senior staff from the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) will attend Friday night's meeting which will be held at 7pm in the Memorial Hall, Main Road, Otaki.
The 2002-2003 consultations on the route considered several options before the Transit Board decided on the preferred eastern route.
A recent revision of the 2002 plan by NZTA has resulted in a Te Horo overbridge and Otaki Gorge Road underpass to connect local roads.
The Otaki meeting will follow three other public meetings being held in the wider electorate today with Transport Minister Hon Steven Joyce.
