Guy Urges Community to Have Say on SH1 Expressway Route
Local MP Nathan Guy is encouraging people to have their say on the preferred route for SH1 through Kapiti before the consultation period closes next Friday [30 October 2009].
“Your views will be an important consideration for the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) Board in making its decision on the preferred route through our district.
“I recognise that it has been an unsettling time for our community and a range of conflicting information has been presented from various sources.
“However, the overwhelming feedback I have received at public meetings, constituent clinics and on the street is that ‘something needs to be done’ to ensure we have a safe, efficient and well-connected expressway through our district to Otaki and beyond.
“The Government doesn’t have a preference between the three proposed options. We hope to get broad acceptance of one of them before future growth restricts where the State Highway could go in the future.
“Transport Minister Hon Steven Joyce plans to announce the entire Route of National Significance from Wellington Airport to Levin by the end of this year. A detailed design process will then be carried out and the NZTA will consult further with directly affected residents and the wider community."
Mr Guy says people can call his office in Paraparaumu 04 298 2906 or visit the NZTA website at www.nzta.govt.nz/consultation/kapiticonsultation for a feedback form. Email submissions are able to be sent to [email protected]
