Guy Urges Public to make Submissions to ACC on Proposed Levy Hike
Local MP Nathan Guy is urging people to have their say on the big levy increases being proposed by ACC.
“There’s a big hole in the ACC’s books to the tune of $13 billion and the ACC Board is proposing large rises to help bring its books under control.
“Our Government thinks the levy increases are too high for New Zealanders to pay and we plan to change the law to more than halve the increases.
“But in the meantime, we are keen for the public to find out more about the proposed changes and make their views known to ACC by the submission deadline of 10 November 2009.
“We want to see an accident compensation system that is affordable, fair and sustainable.”
Mr Guy says it’s important for people to make their views known on the escalating costs of motor cycle accidents and who should pay.
“The Government believes there's a good case to vary the levy based on motorcycle size given the accident data, but we haven’t worked out what would be an appropriate increase. We’d like to hear your opinion.”
