Guy welcomes fruit in local schools for 2010
Otaki MP Nathan Guy is delighted that 11 schools in Kapiti and Horowhenua will continue to receive Government funding for fruit this year.
“This is great news for the participating schools in my electorate. It’s really important that kids get a good start in life by eating well and learning about healthy lifestyles.
“I was always told an apple a day kept the doctor away, so I hope fruit in these kid’s diets flows on to help their education as well.”
Fruit in Schools is funded by the Ministry of Health and targeted at schools considered most in need. Other components of the programme encourage school children to be sun smart, smoke free and physically active.
Participating schools are Coley Street School, Foxton Beach School, Foxton School, Levin East School, Levin Intermediate, Levin School, St Joseph's School (Levin), Taitoko School, Shannon School, Otaki Health Camp School and Otaki School.
