Guy Welcomes Kapiti Health Plan
Otaki MP Nathan Guy is welcoming a report from Capital and Coast District Health Board on expanding the Kapiti Health Centre (KHC).
Mr Guy helped secure $10,000 for the report “Kapiti Health Centre Scoping Project” late last year. The report looks at options for integrating more services into the KHC, which include building expansion or getting the private sector involved.
“This report is a big step towards delivering better healthcare and services for Kapiti residents,” said Mr Guy.
“There is broad support from many local health providers wanting to get involved, but there are space constraints at present.
“These proposals fit with the Government’s priority of integrated patient care, with services as close to home as possible.
“I realise that some capital will be needed for such a move and budgets are tight, but this is an important priority for the region.
“The Kapiti Coast is one of the fastest growing areas in New Zealand, with population growth of 21% expected from 2006 to 2026.
“We also have a large number of elderly people with specific health needs. Around 25% of Kapiti’s population is over 65, which is double the New Zealand average.
“I look forward to presenting the report to the Kapiti Health Hub group and then making a recommendation to the Minister of Health, Tony Ryall.”
