Guy Against Cutting Horowhenua Beds
Otaki MP Nathan Guy is urging the MidCentral District Health Board not to cut patient beds in Horowhenua.
“As local MP for Otaki, I’m totally against any loss of beds at the Horowhenua Health Centre.
“I realise the MidCentral DHB is under considerable financial pressure, but ripping out these beds would be like removing the engine from a car.
“These beds are full and are needed in our community for our elderly population and the general public.
“While MidCentral has prepared 20 cost-saving options with a final decision yet to be made, this particular idea appears ill-thought through. I met with the DHB in my Levin office on Friday and have made my views clear.
“MidCentral received an extra $26 million in funding from the Government last year, one of the biggest increases in the country, but the Board still has a big deficit and a lot of work to do.
“I want to reassure the community that I’m watching this issue very closely,” said Mr Guy.
