Guy praises local Hospice store opening
Otaki MP Nathan Guy has congratulated Arohanui Hospice volunteers for opening their new shop in Oxford Street, Levin.
Mr Guy cut the ribbon with Mayor Brendan Duffy and Arohanui Hospice Trustee Charlie Pedersen on Saturday to celebrate the opening.
“This is a great initiative to raise money for a wonderful cause,” said Mr Guy.
“These volunteers saw a need for this service in Levin and managed to get hundreds of items donated.
“As the ribbon was cut about 50 shoppers poured into the new store to get a bargain of second hand goods.
“In 2008 13,000 cancer sufferers received support from Hospice staff directly across New Zealand. 126,000 visits were made to people’s homes by 7000 volunteers.
“That’s why this National Government has committed $60 million over four years to support the Hospice and the wonderful work they do in our community, and right across New Zealand.
“This contribution helps with palliative care, inpatient care, day care, bereavement counselling and much more,” said Mr Guy.
