Guy pleased Horowhenua beds remain
Otaki MP Nathan Guy is pleased that the MidCentral District Health Board (DHB) is retaining the 24 inpatient and four maternity beds at the Horowhenua Health Centre.
“The local community has made it clear they wanted me to fight to save these beds. I have been vocal that any idea of removing these beds would have been like removing the engine from the car. It would have left many in our community feeling vulnerable,” says Mr Guy.
“I await the final report on this proposal with interest.
“I am also pleased to see that another 10 beds for elderly patients needing rehab will be retained at the Masonic Village in Levin. These DHB funded beds offer an even higher level of care for the community.
“An ongoing challenge for the DHB and the primary health organisation (PHO) is to attract and retain GPs to the Horowhenua Health Centre.
“I’m also aware that poor financial performance by the DHB has seen them in deficit for the past three years despite the Government’s cash injection of $26 million last year,” says Mr Guy.
