Guy welcomes Expressway Alliance progress
Otaki MP Nathan Guy has welcomed the decision by Kapiti Coast District Council to formally join the NZTA Alliance.
“The new expressway is a major infrastructure development for our region and it makes sense for the council to be sitting around the table.
“NZTA have made it clear they want to engage with the local community and this is an important way of doing that.
“The next major step forward is the design of the expressway and the location of interchanges. It’s important that locals have their say when NZTA begins consultation. As local MP I want to ensure we have good access to the expressway.
“This is an exciting project for Kapiti and wider region. It is part of a $2.2 billion Road of National Significance from Levin to Wellington airport, including Transmission Gully. On top of that we also have a major rail upgrade underway.
“Already this week we have seen good progress with the announcement by NZTA of a new road between the southern end of Emerald Glen Road and the northern side of the MacKays Crossing roundabout which joins State Highway 1.
“It is great that our region is finally getting the quality infrastructure it deserves. The new expressway will mean less congestion, safer journeys and a real boost to the regional economy.”
