Waikanae school bus service to remain free
Otaki MP Nathan Guy has welcomed news that the school bus service for Waikanae Beach school children will remain free.
“I’ve been discussing this issue with the Minister of Education Anne Tolley and I’m very pleased she has agreed to maintain the free service.
“I wanted this issue sorted quickly to give parents some certainty and I’m delighted the Minister has responded.
“The Minister has asked for a review of Kapanui School’s enrolment scheme, and until this detailed work is completed the bus service will remain free.
“Zoning rules mean that some students cannot attend nearby Kapanui School, so it’s only fair that some form of help is provided for the 120 children who have to travel to Waikanae School.
“Earlier this year the government announced plans for a new primary school in Waikanae which will help ease the pressure on school rolls.
“In the meantime, it’s great news this important service will continue.
“Waikanae is a fast growing area with many families choosing to live here. It’s great the government is backing this up with a new school and decent infrastructure investment in rail and road.”
