Hitchhiking Guy
On Friday 17 August 2007 I was caught at my Paraparaumu office without a car (kind of a long story..), so I decided to hitch-hike home to Levin. I stepped out of my office and put my thumb out on the busy SH1 road. Within about 20 cars passing, a bloke in a van pulled over and yelled out, “is that you Nathan?” It turned out to be Andrew who was in our ante-natal class in Palmerston North back in 2004. I hadn’t seen him since the huff and puff classes and was enjoying the baby talk catch-up when my mobile phone rang. It was press gallery reporter Martin Kay from The Dominion Post quizzing me about why I was hitch hiking in a suit and had my car broken down. Apparently a Dom-post staffer had spotted me in the 60 seconds I had my thumb out.
Moral of the story: Someone always knows someone in New Zealand!
