Guy welcomes Kapiti Expressway design
Otaki MP Nathan Guy attended a successful day’s consultation on the proposed route for the Kapiti Expressway yesterday.
“Overall it was a pretty positive day with a huge turnout. All those who attended were able to gain valuable and detailed information on the expressway route.”
Mr Guy says there was obviously some mixed reaction to the expressway route, but generally people left the expo better informed. NZTA is following up with some individuals wanting more details.
“In general I think the proposal is the best possible outcome for the Kapiti community. Getting four interchanges is a huge win. I’ve always said the interchanges need to be in the right place to connect communities and provide decent access for locals and visitors.
“The new plan delivers this, with two of the interchanges on two of our busiest local roads – Kapiti and Te Moana. I, along with others, fought hard to get those interchanges in the right place to better connect the Paraparaumu and Waikanae communities.
“I have campaigned strongly for a second bridge over the Waikanae River and it’s great that the Government can now deliver this.
“There is still further discussion needed on the two options north of the Waikanae River to identify a preferred route and I hope the community will signal its preference through submissions and consultation.
“I have supported property owners affected by the Peka Peka to Otaki roading plan during the past 12 months, working with NZTA over property purchases. I intend to do the same with the Kapiti community.”
Mr Guy plans to attend other public consultation expos held in his electorate this week and is pleased that residents have until early February to make a submission.
