Guy welcomes Defence clothing contracts
Otaki MP Nathan Guy has welcomed the news that Pacific Brand Holdings (NZ) – trading as Yakka Apparel Solutions (YASL) – has won a new five year contract to supply clothing to the New Zealand Defence Force.
“Local Horowhenua firms Motor Sport Apparel, Swazi, Canvasland and Palco have supplied YASL with a variety of orders over recent years and I expect this will continue into the future.
“This is great news for local jobs as the current contracts are worth around $1 million to the local economy.
“Defence Minister Wayne Mapp made the announcement last week, noting that YASL’s tender relies largely on the same range of sources, suppliers and services as their previous contract.
“It’s great news that a New Zealand firm has been awarded the contract with a total estimated value of around $200 million over five years.
“Earlier this year I took the Minister of Defence on a tour through various apparel suppliers in Levin and he was very impressed with the quality of work being done here.
“The apparel industry has a proud history in Horowhenua and the future looks bright with this news. Once again it shows that local companies can be very successful supplying high quality products that perform well in all sorts of environments around the world.”
