Youth MP YouTube winner announced
Takapuna Grammar student and Youth MP Amelia MacDonald has won a video competition run by the New Zealand Business and Parliament Trust, Acting Youth Affairs Minister Nathan Guy has announced today.
“Youth MPs were invited to make a video about their experiences and impressions of this year’s Youth Parliament, held in July 2010.
A total of $5000 has been awarded to the winners to support further study,” says Mr Guy.
“Friends and members of the public were invited to comment on the entries, posted on YouTube, and these views were considered by the independent judging panel which made the final award decisions.
“Previous competitions have been based on the written word and this was the first time video entries have been sought and posted on YouTube.
“This is a great way to spread the word about Youth Parliament and to foster debate amongst young people about parliament and our political system in general.
“The judges praised the creativity and professionalism of the entries which were of a high standard.”
Amelia MacDonald represented List MP Phil Twyford and was one of 122 Youth MPs from across New Zealand who took part in this year’s Youth Parliament.
