Guy welcomes progress on Otaki to Levin SH1
Otaki MP Nathan Guy has welcomed the latest progress by NZTA on improving SH1 from Otaki to Levin, with MWH appointed to carry out investigation and design work.
“This 30 kilometre stretch of road from Otaki to North of Levin is long overdue for an upgrade. There are numerous accident blackspots to fix and all road users will be glad to see positive progress,” says Mr Guy.
“Ultimately Levin will be just an hour’s drive from the Wellington CBD, which opens up major opportunities. This will help attract more people and businesses to locate here.
“I will be interested to see which options MWH comes up with around Levin as both SH57 and SH1 have similar vehicle numbers per day of around 6,000 to 8,000.
“After decades of talk, it’s great that Horowhenua is finally going to get a decent road it has needed for a long time.
“This follows on from the good progress being made on Transmission Gully, Kapiti to Otaki expressway and a major rail upgrade to Waikanae.”
