MPs welcome next step for Transmission Gully
MPs Nathan Guy and Hekia Parata have welcomed the Environmental Protection Authority’s announcement that the next step in the planning process for Transmission Gully is underway.
The EPA is now taking public submissions about plans to change the Greater Wellington Regional Freshwater Plan, so that the Transmission Gully project can go ahead.
“This is the next step in a long planning process for a project of this scale,” says Ms Parata, who is the National MP based in Mana.
“The upgrade of State Highway 1 from Wellington to Levin, including Transmission Gully, is part of National’s comprehensive plan to build the foundations for a stronger economy.
“It’s great news for the people of the Mana that National is working hard to progress this project. The upgrade will speed up travel times, boost our local economy, and help our businesses become more competitive.”
Otaki MP Nathan Guy has welcomed the progress for the Kapiti and Horowhenua region.
“Transmission Gully will link up with the Kapiti expressway and provide much easier access to Wellington for local residents.
“Ultimately Levin will be just an hour’s drive from the Wellington CBD. This will encourage more people to live, work and visit here and really boost the regional economy."
The National-led Government is investing $10.7 billion into State Highways over the next 10 years. The Levin to Wellington Airport corridor is one of seven Roads of National Significance.
The closing date for submissions to the EPA is 11 March 2011. To make a submission visit: www.epa.govt.nz.
