Peter Keenan a major loss to Horowhenua community
Otaki MP Nathan Guy has paid tribute to Horowhenua District Councillor Peter Keenan who passed away last Wednesday.
“Peter Keenan made a major contribution to rural leadership, through Federated Farmers and more recently as a local councillor.
“He was a straight shooter who always said what he thought. I visited him recently, he was in great spirits and gave me plenty of advice for Parliament.
“The Keenan family have a long family history in the Koputaroa community. I attended Koputaroa School where Mrs Keenan ran the office, sons Todd and Greg were pupils and Mr Keenan was the coach of our 10 aside rugby team.
“The Keenan boys always had outstanding pet lambs at Agricultural Day and Mr Keenan had a fine eye for good quality livestock.
“He was a great golfer and often I would see him practicing putting or chipping in the front paddock as I drove past.
“He was never lost for words and we will all miss his contribution in our community."
