Guy welcomes Expressway decisions
Otaki MP Nathan Guy is welcoming NZTA’s progress on the Kapiti Expressway with the final detailed design unveiled today.
”I'm pleased that NZTA has listened closely to community feedback and chosen the Western option, which will affect significantly fewer property owners than the Eastern option. The southern alignment was always going to be a difficult call to make with many factors to consider.
“It’s important that NZTA makes a decision on property purchases quickly to allow these residents to get on with their lives.
“Because we are one of the fastest growing regions in New Zealand with little vacant land available apart from the Sandhills route, there was always going to be people affected. The other options considered by NZTA in 2009 would have would have impacted even more properties.
“Overall this is a hugely positive development for our region. Most people I speak to are rapt to have interchanges on two of the busiest local roads, Kapiti and Te Moana, and a second bridge over the Waikanae River. SH1 will become a local road which offers numerous opportunities for new businesses and future growth.
“Transmission Gully is full steam ahead, which makes it even more important to complete the expressway. It would be pointless to have traffic exiting the Gully at MacKays crossing and coming to a roaring halt at the Paraparaumu traffic lights.
“I’m looking forward to meeting people at the first NZTA public expo next Sunday May 15th at Southwards car museum. This is a major development for our community and it’s important that people are kept well informed.
“The Kapiti Expressway is part of the Levin to Wellington Airport Road of National Significance, a $2.2 billion project which includes Transmission Gully.”
