New Matangi trains start on Kapiti line
Otaki MP has welcomed the introduction of Matangi trains on the Kapiti line.
“This is great news for commuters. The new Matangi trains are superb, with all the latest technology. They are fast, quiet, smooth and very comfortable.
“I was lucky enough to ride on one with Prime Minister John Key and local school kids last Tuesday, and they were very impressed.
“The first morning peak hour service ran on Wednesday 24 August, and from Monday 29 August four off-peak services will also operate.
“These new trains, together with the electrification and double tracking all the way to Waikanae, will mean much more reliable services.
“The Matangis will complement the Ganz Mavag units that are the work horses on the Kapiti Line.
“The National Government is making a $383 million investment into upgrading the Wellington region’s rail system, and on top of that we also have $88 million for new signalling and traction assets on the network.
“This will be welcomed by commuters who have had some frustrating times in recent years. The Government’s investment is really starting to pay off,” says Mr Guy.
