Rugby World Cup hits Horowhenua and Kapiti
Otaki MP Nathan Guy says the Rugby World Cup is taking off in Kapiti and Horowhenua this week as a series of games and events take place.
“This weekend’s Heartland game between Horowhenua-Kapiti and East Coast is going to be a huge occasion, with people expected to take the train up from Wellington."
The festivities start on Friday night with a celebrity debate between Mr Guy and MP Parekura Horomia, who each played rugby for the respective provinces. A series of events on Saturday around the game include curtainraisers, Ratana Band, Kapa Haka and a screening of the All Blacks vs France match.
Also on Friday at 1pm, Mr Guy has organised a special rugby training session at Otaki Domain for local primary schools involving former All Blacks Christian Cullen and Paul Steinmetz, New Zealand Maori All Black Steve Hirini and Junior All Black Matene Love..
“This is a great chance for young players to learn from some local legends.
“Levin Racing Club are holding their Spring Meeting this Friday, and Foxton RSA are also holding a Rugby Fun Night on the Saturday.
“World Cup games have begun in Wellington and next week sees Palmerston North hosting two matches, which will see even more visitors passing through our region.
“I encourage everyone to make the most of this festival weekend in Otaki and get involved,” says Mr Guy.
