Young people urged – ‘don’t drink and fry’
Otaki MP and Minister Responsible for the NZ Fire Service Nathan Guy has helped launch a new campaign by the Fire Service and Hell Pizza to spread the message “Don’t Drink and Fry."
Safety messages now appear across all of Hell Pizza boxes, helping reach young people who are the target of this campaign.
"We know that alcohol is a factor in half of all fatal house fires, and so many of these tragedies are avoidable,” says Mr Guy.
"Too many young New Zealanders come home from a night out and try to cook a feed, only to end up cooking themselves.
"Over the last 12 months in New Zealand there have been 866 fires caused by unattended cooking or people impaired by drugs or alcohol, causing 2 fatalities and 114 injuries.
"In Kapiti alone there have been 16 fires and two injuries from these causes over the same period.
"That’s why it’s great to see the New Zealand Fire Service working in the community to prevent these accidents before they happen.
“I really appreciate the work the Fire Service, Hell Pizza and others are doing in spreading the crucial message to young people – ‘don’t drink and fry’. It’s just not worth it.”
