No decent roads for Kapiti under Labour/Greens - Guy
Otaki MP Nathan Guy has slammed the Greens policy to scrap Transmission Gully as a betrayal for Kapiti, Horowhenua and the wider Wellington region.
"A Labour/Greens coalition would kill off Transmission Gully and the Kapiti expressway, sending us back to the drawing board all over again.
"Locals have had enough of accident blackspots and traffic chokepoints along state highway one. We are a fast growing region and we badly need this new infrastructure.
"After years of talk and delay, the National-led Government has had the guts and the vision to upgrade the route from Wellington Airport to Levin.
"The overwhelming message I get from locals is ‘just get on build it.’ A strong party and electorate vote for National is now the only way to make this happen.
"This Government has taken a balanced approach to transport, with $383 million going towards improving the Wellington rail network. We now have new trains and services running to Waikanae, and better roads will help bus services."
Mr Guy has also welcomed the latest release of consultation on the MacKays to Peka Peka expressway, focusing on the design detail.
"It’s great to see that half of the 216 submissions received were in favour.
"NZTA have carefully considered all of the ideas, feedback and comments received. There is good support for a cycleway next to the expressway and the design of the Peka Peka interchange has been updated.
"Last week the Transport Minister Steven Joyce visited the NZTA information kiosk at Coastlands and confirmed that funding is in place for a 2013 start, as long as consenting timeframes are met.
"Property purchases are underway and I want to make sure progress is maintained on the Kapiti expressway, and not lost by a change of Government," says Mr Guy.
