Whitireia’s new Kapiti campus welcomed
Otaki MP Nathan Guy has today officially opened Whitireia’s new campus on Kapiti Road today, with Education Minister Hekia Parata.
“This is a major investment of around $3.5 million and a vote of confidence in the wider Kapiti region,” says Mr Guy.
"It really has the ‘wow’ factor and gives Whitireia a much more visible and accessible presence in the community.
“The new facilities are state of the art, and already some courses for 2012 are over-subscribed.
”The new campus is strategically located to take advantage of the Kapiti expressway, with the interchange just down the road. The rail and bus service will also provide an important transport link for students and staff to enjoy.
“It’s pleasing to see Weltech and Whitireia working well together since the merger of the two councils last year. Earlier this week I saw students beginning work on their carpentry course in Otaki, which is run by the two organisations.
“All of this will encourage more young people to study locally, rather than move away and leave the region.
“We know that with the rebuild of Christchurch, the demand for trades and practical skills is going to boom. It’s a good time for Whitireia to make this investment and a real asset to the community,” says Mr Guy.
