Local car crushing sends strong message
Otaki MP Nathan Guy has welcomed the crushing of a Paraparaumu car under “boy racer” laws.
“Illegal street racing is a dangerous menace to local communities and this crushing send a strong message that this kind of behaviour won’t be tolerated.
“We’ve had issues in Kapiti and Horowhenua with dangerous street races, which is upsetting and intimidating for local residents.
“It’s important that we have meaningful penalties, and for many young racers losing their prized car will be a serious incentive to behave.
“There are 116 people around the country who have had their second strike, and today’s crushing shows the consequences if they continue to offend.”
National passed the Vehicle Confiscation and Seizure Bill in 2009. The law targets illegal street racing by requiring a vehicle to be destroyed after a third offence.
