Olympic rowers help raise $3000 for Horowhenua Rowing Club
Otaki MP Nathan Guy says he is thrilled with the visit of medal-winning Olympic rowers Joseph Sullivan and Peter Taylor to Levin last Friday which helped raise around $3000 for the Horowhenua Rowing Club.
“Peter and Joseph gave up their time to visit our community and help the
local rowing club get back on their feet after the recent mindless
vandalism.
“They are two outstanding young men who were a big hit with the students at Waiopeheu College and Levin East Primary School. They also gave local rowers a once-in-a-lifetime coaching session on the Manawatu River, and saw the damage at the rowing club for themselves.
“One of the repaired boats that Peter Taylor rode in cost around $3,000 to get professionally fixed.
“The response to the vandalism has brought out the best in our community, and the rowing club will bounce back even stronger than before.
“I’m proud of the generosity of locals who bid on a range of prizes, helping raise around $3000 at the charity auction on Friday night. I also want to thank the local and nationwide companies who donated auction items,” says Mr Guy.
