Guy pays tribute to Collis Blake
Otaki MP Nathan Guy has paid tribute to Levin farmer and philanthropist Collis Blake who passed away last weekend.
“Collis was a pioneer in the Horowhenua district who has made an enormous contribution. He and his wife Helen generously supported a range of local causes, particularly for young people.
“His generosity funded the Levin Adventure Playground which is very popular with families. He also supported many other charities, some of which included Te Takere, Ronald McDonald House and Blake House at Waiopehu College which provides health services to students.
“He was deservedly made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) in 2000 and in 2011 was admitted to the Kapiti-Horowhenua Electra Business Awards Hall of Fame.
“Collis will also be remembered for creating the Provincial Support Group in the 1980s which helped hundreds of farmers who were facing enormous financial pressure at the time.
“I will remember Collis for his ability to get things done, generosity and concern for younger generations. His work has saved lives and made our community a better place to live.
“My thoughts and sympathies go to his wife Helen and his family. At the same time they should be very proud of what he has achieved and left behind for others,” says Mr Guy.
Mr Guy will be attending Collis Blake’s funeral this Tuesday in Levin.
