Guy opens new NZTA Expressway kiosk
Otaki MP Nathan Guy has welcomed the official opening of a new NZTA information kiosk at Coastlands, providing the public with updates on construction of the Kapiti expressway.
“The new, re-opened kiosk will have regular updated information. It will be a ‘one-stop shop’ showing people the inner workings of this major infrastructure project. This includes touch screens, story boards and hands-on demonstrations.
“The expressway is making rapid progress and many people are fascinated by the amount of activity and keen to learn more.
“Housing development is booming, in part thanks to the expressway, with the number of building consents issued by Kapiti Coast District Council for new houses in the first six months of this year up 25 per cent on last year.”
Guy also had a tour of the Waikanae bridge site and was amazed at the progress since his last visit in February.
Massive cranes are drilling 37 metres down for piles to provide the foundations for the eagerly awaited bridge.
The expressway road between Otaihanga and the Waikanae River is all but formed up and the next stage is preparing it for sealing.
“Surely it’s now time for the Labour Party to make a u-turn on their policy to scrap the expressway. The benefits for Kapiti are so obvious, that a change of Government to a Labour/Greens/Mana/Internet coalition would be disastrous.
“I’m proud of the Kapiti expressway and the economic boost it is creating. Once finished it will mean quicker, safer journeys and will encourage more people to live, work and play here.”
