Guy welcomes Kapiti Island visitor fee drop
Otaki MP Nathan Guy has welcomed the drop in Kapiti Island visitor fees as great news for local tourism.
“I’m very pleased with the announcement by Minister of Conservation Nick Smith. I’ve lobbied for this and it’s great to see changes will be made.
“Teenagers 17 years old and younger will be free, and adult permit fees will be reduced from $28.75 to $10.00.
“Lowering the concession charges will make it more affordable for families and encourage more people to visit, with spin-offs for local cafes, restaurants and accommodation.
“Air New Zealand flights into Paraparaumu give us great potential to promote Kapiti Island as an iconic attraction to visitors.
“The visitor experience to the island sanctuary has the royal stamp of approval from Prince William who was hugely impressed by the natural beauty when he visited with Prime Minister John Key and me in January 2010.”
