Prime Minister's Visit
It was great to have the Prime Minister John Key visiting Kapiti and Horowhenua last week. It was his second visit to our region this year after his very successful trip to Kapiti Island with Prince William in January.
Our first visit was to Poroutawhao primary school to open a new $150,000 multipurpose classroom. The kids and parents couldn’t believe their eyes when John Key turned up to cut the ribbon. He was high-fiving all the kids while trying to talk to the parents at the same time.
The school also helped relocate the community hall from over the road. Congratulations to several founding families who got stuck in and made this project possible.
The Prime Minister also got to open the new Levin Courthouse which has two spacious courtrooms with the main court able to accommodate jury trials if needed in the future.
We then visited Manawatu College where students demonstrated their own wood splitter. It’s good to see teenagers combining theory with ‘hands on’ skills. They built and designed this invention which will help raise funds for the College.
At Paraparaumu airport we climbed the control tower to get a birds eye view of what is planned with the Business Park development. It’s such an exciting project with Air New Zealand keen to have a regular service from Paraparaumu to Auckland soon, once the runway is upgraded and the terminal built.
A meeting with about 200 senior citizens at the Kapiti Charter Club was a huge success. The Prime Minister answered a variety of questions and reassured pensioners ahead of the Budget due on May 20.
It was an action packed day and I was proud to have Prime Minister John Key in the Otaki electorate – again – to show off some of the great things happening here.
