Rotary Art Show
There was a lot happening around Horowhenua and Kapiti over Labour weekend and plenty of visitors to the region.
I was lucky enough to get a sneak preview of the Rotary Art Show at Southwards car museum last week. This is the 8th annual show and every year it gets bigger and better.
Our region is well known for the number of creative and artistic people living here and this was a great showcase of local and national talent.
I’ve been to this event for a lot of years now and I’m always blown away by the talent we have in our local art scene, both amateur and professional.
Well done to all the artists who took part and thanks to the local sponsors and businesses who kindly donated prizes.
As in previous years, all works on display over the weekend were for sale and the funds raised will go directly back into fostering local artistic development.
I was also lucky enough to attend the World of Wearable Arts Awards in Wellington a few weeks ago where our region also made a big splash.
I was hugely impressed by the creations of our two local entrants, Kayla Christensen and Renee Louie from Paraparaumu.
Well done also to Eve Gilliland from Otaki who took away the First Time Entrant Award. It was great to see local artists and designers making a big impact on the national stage.
My own artistic skills are not flash but it’s good to know that others in our community are very talented.
