Tough new drug laws help Police
Otaki MP Nathan Guy has welcomed the major police crackdown on gangs and drug dealing around Horowhenua and Manawatu last week.
“The police have been very proactive with these raids. Around half a million dollars was seized along with vehicles, cash and other assets.
“60% of these arrests were in the Central District which included raids on houses in Otaki, Levin and Foxton.
“This sends a loud and clear message to gangs and those dealing drugs: they are not welcome in our communities.
“The National Government’s tough new laws in the last two years have cracked down heavily on organised crime by giving the Police more tools to fight crime.
“In particular the Criminal Proceeds Act and the Criminal Amendment Act have made life more difficult for organised criminals.
“The Police do a great job keeping our communities safe, but they need the public’s help as well. If you want to report any suspicious activity in your area please call crime stoppers on 0800 555 111.”
