Guy welcomes Foxton insulation programme
Otaki MP Nathan Guy has welcomed the programme to potentially insulate all homes in Foxton, as part of the Government’s Warm Up New Zealand: Heat Smart programme.
‘Warm Up Foxton’ is being led by Autex NZ and supported by funding from the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA).
Mr Guy officially launched the project today at Norbiton road in Foxton at the first home to be insulated.
"This is outstanding news for residents. 1300 homes in Foxton will have the opportunity to become warmer, drier and healthier thanks to the support of Autex NZ and the Government,” says Mr Guy.
"The total project cost is estimated to be $5.5 million. With EECA paying 60% for low income and 33% for general income households, that is a major investment by the Government.
"This is the first time that an entire town has been targeted for insulation. I understand that Autex chose Foxton because it is the ideal size to tackle all in one go.
"It’s very exciting news for a lot of residents who couldn’t otherwise afford to make this investment.
"Properly insulated houses are much more energy efficient, saving people money. Warmer houses are also healthy houses, particularly for the elderly, young children and everyone who suffers respiratory problems like asthma.
"This gives us a real opportunity to study the health effects of insulating a whole community, and to track the results over time," says Mr Guy.
Community Service Card holders will receive their insulation retrofit for free. EECA will pay a basic subsidy of 60% and Autex will provide the remaining 40%.
For general income households, the homeowner will cover 30% of the cost, EECA will pay the basic subsidy of 33% up to $1300 (GST inclusive), and Autex and PowerShed will pay the balance.
Government funding for home insulation under Warm Up New Zealand: Heat Smart is the same throughout New Zealand– 33% for general income and 60% for low income for houses built before 2000.
